OWINTALK | BEHIND BUSINESS, BEYOND NEWS

Sustainability has already grown into a key, urgent global issue. Whether clients or people who belong to Objectway community, you have probably heard or read us talking about Environmental, Social and Governance concerns. Well, it’s not all pure business. Today and herein, we speak of our own, personal, commitment through our corporate series of initiatives going by the name of OWGREEN.One of the green issues currently having a major impact on society is indeed plastic, and to be specific the debate over disposable plastic. On this matter, we mention a few sobering statistics:

  • 8 billion plastic bottles for 206 litres per capita are sold in Italy every year: 1 million 165 thousand tons of CO2 result from production and transport.
  • 25 1.5-litres bottles are fabricated with 17 litres of water and 2 litres of oil.
  • Energy consumption is about 2,000 times higher than what needed to obtain the same amount of water supplied by a tap connected to an aqueduct.

Alarming data, isn’t it? Exactly what led us to question ourselves on what we can actively do to – as simple as it is – make things better.

Change starts within

The moment we begun tracing our path towards a greener Objectway, we immediately understood the opportunity and potential an organisation of our size actually has to contribute protecting the planet and preserving the environment for the future generations.

We have been focusing on creating awareness of personal choices and changing behaviours – both within our organisation and among those we interact with.

We have committed to reusing and reducing waste across our worldwide offices, and we started from equipping all our colleagues with their own reusable Objectway bottle to fill and refill. On present day, we promote the use of supplies that are recycled and recyclable, whose production respects sustainability criteria; a little but meaningful example – if you think how many coffees more than 700 people can have each day! – the disposable coffee cups we use are made of recycled paper.

We want to encourage our people to take effective part and drive positive change, starting by greening up their everyday routine with simple good habits: sorting and recycling materials, reducing food waste, avoiding printed paper overuse etc. From in-office life to events we will be hosting or attending, environmental impact will be increasingly considered.

Our company’s sustainability programs and efforts will create value for the long-run, this is why we aim to forge a community of people that want to make change happen, an organisation of changemakers.

For the months to come, we will ensure Objectway’s OWGREEN initiatives align with its vision.

Of course switching to green the right way requires time, but we believe collective action and teamwork to be the keystones to integrate sustainability into Objectway’s corporate culture and our people’s very own work and personal lifestyle.
